Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, or just Valladolid, is a Spanish football team hailing from the beautiful city of Valladolid, nestled in Castile and León. They’ve been kicking it since 1928 and are currently rocking the Segunda División, which is like the second coolest league in Spanish football.

Moreover, they’ve got a rich history, and even though they’re not in the top tier right now, they’ve had their moments in the sun. So, if you’re into Spanish football and looking for a team with character, give Valladolid a shout!

Real Valladolid History

Real Valladolid was created on September 22, 1928, when Real Unión Deportiva de Valladolid and Club Deportivo Español joined forces. Their debut match ended in a 2–1 victory against Alavés. They hit the big leagues in 1947–48, clinching the Segunda División title and becoming the first Castile and León team to reach the Spanish top flight.

The next year, they even made it to the Copa Del Rey finals but lost 4–1 to Athletic Bilbao at Chamartín Stadium. Valladolid has mostly hung around the top two divisions in Spanish football and secured the Segunda División crown twice in 1947–48 and 2006–07. Their best La Liga finish came in 1968–69 with a fourth-place spot. They’ve had a few shots at Copa del Rey glory too, reaching the final in 1949, 1983, 2001, and most recently in 2023, although they’ve never quite managed to claim the cup.

José Zorrilla Stadium

Real Valladolid’s home stadium, the José Zorrilla Stadium, has been a sporting hub in the city of Valladolid since its construction back in 1924. With a cozy capacity of 27,846 spectators, it provides an intimate setting for fans to soak in the football action.

Named in honor of José Zorrilla, a celebrated Spanish poet and playwright, the stadium carries a cultural touch that goes beyond the game. It’s more than just a place to watch football. It’s a symbol of the city’s history and heritage. Located right in the heart of Valladolid, this stadium serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, where emotions run high and memories are made. Whether you’re a die-hard Valladolid fan or just looking for an authentic football experience in Spain, the José Zorrilla Stadium is where the magic happens, bringing the spirit of the game and the spirit of Valladolid together in one place.

Real Valladolid Coach

Paulo Pezzolano, the current manager of Real Valladolid, is a dynamic Argentinean ex-footballer who made a name for himself in midfield during his playing days. He kicked off his coaching career in 2018 with Torque and has been on a fascinating journey ever since, handling teams like Plaza Colonia, Liverpool Montevideo, and Cerro Largo. His appointment as Real Valladolid’s gaffer in June 2022 was a significant move.

What sets Pezzolano apart is his attacking approach to the beautiful game, consistently guiding his teams to remarkable achievements. Notably, he steered Torque to promotion to the Primera División in his debut season and secured the Uruguayan Primera División title with Plaza Colonia in 2020. As a young and ambitious manager, Pezzolano’s star continues to rise, and all eyes are on him as he aims to lead Real Valladolid to glory in the 2022-23 season. It’s exciting times for the club and its fans!

Key Players

Real Valladolid, a club currently rocking the Segunda División, made a smashing comeback in the 2021-22 season, clinching the second spot and locking in their promotion back to La Liga. Steering the ship is José Rojo Martín, or as folks fondly call him, Pacheta. Now, let’s talk about the players who are firing up the pitch for Valladolid in the 2022-23 season. First up, we’ve got Sergi Guardiola, a Spanish midfield maestro. He hopped on board from Girona in 2022, and this guy is all about the magic with the ball, think sweet passes and fancy dribbles.

Then, there’s Gonzalo Plata, the Ecuadorian sensation, loaned in from Sporting CP in 2022. He’s a speedster with some serious dribbling and crossing skills. Picture this, defenders trying to catch him is like chasing a ghost on the field. Last but not least, we have Shon Weissman, the Israeli striker who made the move from Real Sociedad in 2021. He’s a goal-scoring machine, the kind of guy who knows how to put that ball in the back of the net. That’s what makes him stand out in the team. These three amigos are the ones to watch when Valladolid hits the pitch.

Achievements Of Real Valladolid

Real Valladolid has had some pretty memorable moments in its soccer history. They’ve snagged the Segunda División championship not once, but twice first in 1947-48 and then in 2006-07. That’s no small feat! And when it comes to the Copa del Rey, they’ve come oh-so-close, finishing as runners-up on four occasions in 1949, 1983, 2001, and most recently in 2023.
