Adana Demirspor, founded in 1945 by railway workers, got its name from its roots. Süleyman Soylu served as the club’s first president, with Şükrü Ersoy as the first manager. The team started in the lower divisions of Turkish football until 1973 when they achieved their first promotion to the Süper Lig. After four seasons, they faced relegation in 1977 but made a comeback in 1984, spending six seasons in the top flight. 

The 1984–85 season saw their highest-ever league finish, securing fourth place. However, they were relegated again in 1990 and spent 15 years in lower divisions. Adana Demirspor returned to the Süper Lig in 2005 but faced relegation again in 2007. It wasn’t until 2021 that they made their third return to the Süper Lig, finishing 12th in the 2021–22 season.
