Vinicius Jr confirms he is willing to help FIFA with racism problem

Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr has made the decision to join a player-led committee aimed at addressing racism in football. As a result, he is to become the face of FIFA’s anti-racism campaign.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently announced that he had personally asked Vinicius to assist the organization in dealing with the issue of racism and propose more severe penalties. This is a notable change from Infantino’s previous claims that racism in football did not exist just seven years ago.

In response to this announcement, Vinicius expressed his gratitude for the support he has received. He thanked Real Madrid, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), and President Infantino for their backing, particularly in light of the incident at Mestalla Stadium. Vinicius affirmed his commitment to continuing the fight against racism alongside them.

Vin Jr also revealed that he had a meeting with Infantino during which the FIFA President sought his input on how players could contribute to the cause. Vinicius emphasized the importance of unity, stating that when everyone stands together, they are stronger. He expressed his desire to continue helping children and those in need, highlighting that racism is a global issue that extends beyond Spanish stadiums.

Vinicius Jr Stands Against Racism

During the interview with Cadena SER, Vinicius spoke about the support he receives from his family, which has helped him cope with the harassment he has faced, including racial abuse. He emphasized that his mind is at ease due to his family’s unwavering support and mentioned that he has faced pressure since making his debut on the big stage at the age of 16.

This season, several incidents of racial abuse have targeted Vinicius Jr, and he has consistently spoken out against them. With his new role within FIFA, the global governing body of football, there is now added pressure on the organization to take action and implement Vinicius’ recommendations. Failure to do so would suggest that FIFA is merely paying lip service to a problem that has already garnered significant attention.
