Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo is not on the same level as Verstappen or Perez says Red Bull boss

After a disappointing performance in 2022 with McLaren, Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo, once regarded as one of the top racers in Formula 1, finds himself on the sidelines for the entirety of 2023. McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, made the decision to replace him with fellow Australian driver Oscar Piastri midway through last season, leaving Ricciardo without a team.

Despite receiving offers from Haas and attracting interest from other teams towards the back of the F1 grid, Ricciardo has chosen to take a break from racing in order to focus on improving his physical and mental well-being, with the intention of returning to the sport in 2024 at his best. However, there is no guarantee that Formula 1 team bosses will take a chance on the seasoned driver, especially considering his underperformance compared to his much younger teammate, Lando Norris, in 2021 and 2022.

One potential option for Ricciardo was a return to the Red Bull teams, with whom he had achieved victories in the past. However, Red Bull’s advisor, Helmut Marko, has stated that Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo is not currently at the required level to displace Sergio Perez from their driver line-up.

Red Bull’s Perspective: Ricciardo’s Future Outside Their Team

Marko acknowledged Ricciardo’s past successes but highlighted a lack of determination and precision in his recent midfield overtaking manoeuvres, suggesting that something may have affected his competitiveness. While Red Bull does not see Ricciardo as a candidate for their seats in the upcoming season, they still believe he has the ability to race for a top team in 2024 if he finds the opportunity to compete at the front of the grid.

Marko mentioned that AlphaTauri, another team associated with Red Bull, is not a viable alternative for Ricciardo. The break from active competition is seen as beneficial for Ricciardo to rediscover himself and determine his true desires in terms of his racing career.
