He acknowledged that while some might consider his perspective naive, he trusts in the Giants’ ability to come to an agreement. Earlier this year, Barkley declined a contract offer from the Giants that could have been worth nearly $14 million per season.

If a deal is not reached by July 17. Barkley admitted that he would contemplate sitting out, emphasizing the importance of respect in the process.

Saquon Barkley Unclear Contract Negotiations Terms and Salary Expectations

During the previous season, Barkley achieved a career-high of 1,312 rushing yards and recorded 10 touchdowns. He also contributed with 57 receptions, helping the Giants secure a playoff spot for the first time in his career.

The specific terms Barkley is seeking in a contract remain unclear, although he desires a salary surpassing $14 million per season. Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers currently holds the title of the highest-paid running back in the NFL, earning slightly over $16 million per season. A contract worth $14 million annually would make Barkley the league’s third-highest-paid running back.

While Barkley is ready to sign a fair deal. It remains uncertain whether both parties will reach an agreement before the July 17 deadline.
