Alonso: Aston Martin “felt more normal” again in F1 Belgian GP

Alonso faced frustration on Saturday during qualifying when a red flag caused by his teammate Lance Stroll disrupted his session, and he later spun off during the sprint race. However, he managed to make up ground during the main event, gaining positions and finishing in the top five.

When asked about his strong performance on Sunday, Alonso lauded the team’s strategy and pit stops, stating that the car felt faster and more competitive after the team made some setup changes following the disappointing races in Hungary and Silverstone.

The tricky rain-hit sprint weekend made it challenging for Alonso to find his rhythm, but he felt more competitive than in previous events. The changing track conditions during qualifying added to the complexity, but the experienced driver made good progress.

Alonso humorously acknowledged his age, emphasizing that experience plays a crucial role in managing such conditions. He noted that it’s not solely about youth but about motivation and approach to the race weekend.

Reflecting on the first half of the 2023 season, Alonso described it as incredible and a dream come true. Aston Martin sits in third place in the constructors’ championship, ahead of Ferrari, and Alonso is also in third place in the drivers’ championship, tied with Lewis Hamilton. Such achievements were unexpected at the beginning of the season in Bahrain.
